No Pay TV provider, streaming service or content owner can thrive in the modern TV landscape without mastering the art of content discovery and extended viewer engagement. Taking consumers beyond ‘now’ to ‘next’, from live into on-demand, and from recent episodes to deep catalogues is essential. This webcast explores the innovations and best practices that can drive total television consumption higher, and with it, subscription and advertising related revenues.

This discussion with Liberty Global, Swisscom TV, ITV, Gracenote and Videonet considers how platforms can become the ‘home service’ for consumers in an increasingly competitive aggregation marketplace. You will hear how content owners ensure their programming is available everywhere – readily surfaced and prominent. Advanced content discovery techniques, and their potential impact, will be explored.

This one-hour discussion also considers:

• The content discovery challenges for all TV stakeholders, including consumers.
• How media companies can work more effectively together to succeed as super-aggregators, VOD services or content creators.
• The KPIs that next-generation content engagement should be measured against, and the ROI justifications for investment.
• How we link fans with live matches and related sports content as streaming services acquire more premium sports rights.
• How every new and old content asset can be linked to other relevant programing and become part of sequential discovery journeys.
• Content discovery practicalities, from universal content IDs to ensuring that parental controls align across broadcast and streaming.
• How we maximise the value of content to the benefit of all stakeholders.

Neotion positions itself as smart home tech provider with Neohome https://www.v-net.tv/2015/09/10/neotion-positions-itself-as-smart-home-tech-provider-with-neohome/ Thu, 10 Sep 2015 21:36:46 +0000

Neotion, which specialises in the production of secure devices for digital TV applications, has unveiled a secure smart home eco-system called ‘Neohome’, aimed at enabling broadcasters and operators to exploit new revenue streams.

Neohome is based around its suite of Home Gateways and its own GS1 security processor, designed in-house and compatible with a wide range of wireless smart home devices – and will be presented on its IBC stand in Hall 4 booth B53.

Neotion describes the aim of the new eco-system as being to position itself as a smart home technology solution provider, by offering a complete eco-system driven by gateways using smart home communications standards such as Zigbee and Z-Wave, together with home automation devices including secure Wi-Fi cameras. The company anticipates this package will meet consumer requirements for safety and security as well as lighting and energy control.

Neotion says that by using a Neohome network, all data, videos and photos transmitted across it, at home as well as in the cloud, will be encrypted and fully secured. In addition to being driven by its GS1 security chip, Neohome gateways will feature an NFC (Near-Field Communication) solution enabling them to be easily and securely paired with smart home devices.

Leveraging its long track-record in promoting interoperability for CE and operator products through its Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) and other TV products, Neotion also plans to launch a certification and approval program for gateways and RF devices, to ensure full interoperability with all operator devices.

Launch of the first Neohome commercial and deployment offers is planned for Q2 2016, the company says.

Keepixo and INSIDE Secure integrate PlayReady for HD OTT delivery https://www.v-net.tv/2015/09/10/keepixo-and-inside-secure-integrate-playready-for-hd-ott-delivery/ Thu, 10 Sep 2015 18:11:31 +0000

Keepixo, which provides software-based head-end solutions for IPTV and OTT, and embedded security solution specialist INSIDE Secure, have announced they have successfully integrated the Microsoft PlayReady DRM to create a secure end-to-end IP-based delivery system for HEVC-compressed HD content.

The solution is being deployed by an un-named North American operator to securely deliver over 100 HD IPTV services in an OTT-like environment.

Keepixo said that by working with INSIDE Secure, the company had been able to rapidly integrate PlayReady into its Genova Live HEVC encoder, ensuring end-to-end HLS delivery of the HEVC-compressed HD content to multiple devices, including STBs, tablets and smartphones.

The protection-level afforded by the delivery system could be further enhanced through the use of key rotation, said Keepixo (this is a process by which the encryption keys used to scramble video content are continually changed to add an extra layer of security).

Microsoft PlayReady said that the ability to deliver HEVC content securely using over-the-top protocols was key to operators looking to extend their reach and enable compelling business models.

A demonstration of the technology will be available on the INSIDE Secure booth in Hall 2, booth 2A.08, as well as on the Keepixo stand in Hall 1, booth 1.F34.

iWedia to demo wide range of Teatro integrations with connected products https://www.v-net.tv/2015/09/10/iwedia-to-demo-wide-range-of-teatro-integrations-with-connected-products/ Thu, 10 Sep 2015 15:40:04 +0000

TV software solutions provider iWedia has announced it has integrated its Linux-based Teatro-3.0 STB software solution for IP-connected ‘zapper’ boxes with the AllConnect streaming technology of Helsinki-based Tuxera, a provider of embedded file systems, network storage and streaming technologies.

iWedia will demonstrate the new integrated solution at IBC on its stand (Hall 5, booth B40).

Tuxera AllConnect allows the user to share music, photos, videos, movies and TV shows on any screen and claims to be the only solution in the market compatible with all smart TVs and STBs. Teatro-3.0, meanwhile, features DLNA, access to “walled garden” Web and OTT video services, as well as PVR and Time Shift Buffer features.

iWedia says the integration provides a simple way to bring Internet video content to the main TV screen through a companion device. “Thanks to the DLNA DMR supported by our Teatro-3.0 STB software solution, Tuxera AllConnect allows any phone or tablet to stream any content to the STB,” the company says.

Other iWedia announcements for IBC include the integration of:
•    Its Teatro portfolio of STB software solutions with Conax’s Contego content protection platform;
•    Its Teatro-3.0 solution with the latest connected HD STB chipset from MStar Semiconductor, Inc as well as with the next-generation hybrid STB from TELE System Communications;
•    Its Teatro-3.5 software solution for Android TV Set-Top Box (STB) with Broadpeak’s nanoCDN technology, which enables operators to extend their CDN into the home network.
