3SS, the STB and multiscreen software solution provider, and Technicolor, the set-top box giant, have used CES 2019 to unveil a new pre-integrated solution that will help start-up TV providers, and operators in emerging markets, to build a service around Android TV. The solution combines a Technicolor Pearl set-top box with Technicolor middleware and the 3READY Android TV Custom Launcher from 3SS.
3SS is one of the early leaders in operator Android TV set-top box deployments and helped Canal Digital and Com Hem introduce their OnePlace and Com Hem TV Hub services, respectively, last year. The 3SS/Technicolor solution is fully compliant with Android P. The two vendors say they are working together on more major Android TV Operator Tier projects that have not yet been announced.
“Android TV has drawn the attention of service providers everywhere since launching just a few years ago and Android TV Operator Tier, in particular, has rapidly proven a game-changer,” says Kai-Christian Borchers, Managing Director at 3SS. “With the new 3SS-Technicolor platform, aspiring Android TV service providers of all kinds can benefit from what we have learned since the earliest Android AOSP deployments [3SS helped Swisscom introduce Swisscom TV 2.0 in 2014].”
Mercedes Pastor, President, Global CPE Business Unit at Technicolor, says “With our new pre-integrated solution with 3SS, we look forward to helping more operators to fast-track their launches while using trusted, proven technology.”
