IBM announced overnight that it was integrating its Watson AI technology into its IBM Cloud Video offering, allowing it to leverage a variety of semantic analytics techniques to increase understanding of and engagement with online video audiences. Among the applications the move will enable are: semantic analysis to allow video to be automatically segmented into meaningful chapters, obviating the need for human intervention; a new Media Insights Platform which will analyse viewing behaviours and social media streams to identify complex patterns that can be used to help improve content pairings and find new viewers interested in existing content; and a new experimental technology designed to process the natural language in streamed video and simultaneously analyse social media feeds, providing word-by-word analysis of audience sentiment to a live event. The IBM Cloud Video is an IBM unit which brings together innovations from the company’s R&D labs with the cloud video platform capabilities of Clearleap and Ustream, which were acquired by IBM earlier this year.
