The EU’s 30% European-sourced VOD quota rule is intended to support local production but could have the side-effect of bringing forward a showdown between broadcasters and international SVOD providers for dominance in ‘local’ content. Until now, ‘local’ has been a key differentiator for broadcasters. Videoscape Europe, the strategy event for D2C, SVOD, AVOD and vPayTV, will consider this development on June 13 as part of a wider look at content strategies for media owners.

This conference will also explore what it takes to become the local VOD champion, and whether that requires more originals and more co-productions, for example. The ‘local’ themes will be addressed in the session: ‘Winning in a fast expanding content universe’.

Anna Maria Vujinovic, Director Digital and Business Development, Tech and Data at RTL, is among the Videoscape Europe speakers next month and will be presenting on: ‘Becoming a VOD champion in local markets’. Vodafone Group, ITV, Channel 4 and Roku are also on the agenda.
