Quickplay, which provides outsourced managed media services, has announced a global strategic partnership with Harmonic to harness that company’s software-based video processing as part of a cloud-based platform that can be used to deliver video to all screens. Harmonic capabilities including packaging-on-the-fly, live-to-VOD, cloud-DVR and software-based transcoding will be available through Quickplay’s multi-tenant video platform. All these video processing functions fall under the umbrella of the VOS software-based media processing platform from Harmonic.
The companies say their cooperation will help service providers get to market faster with better reliability and QoE, and all with lower upfront and operating costs. The cloud-based approach to video processing will make it easier to scale video processing on demand, and the platform service from Quickplay is also characterized by a pay-as-you-grow model.
