Egyptian electronics manufacturers El Araby will use Foxxum’s CTV OS (Operating System) in its future Smart TVs. El Araby is one of the largest industrial and commercial corporations in the Middle East and Africa, and is Foxxum’s first client for its connected TV OS.
Integrating the OS into underlying TV software provided by System on Chip (SoC) manufacturer MediaTek, Foxxum’s connected TV OS adds a web-based layer to display the TV functions on the user interface. The company argues that this web-based approach to UI “seamlessly combines TV functionality and connected TV features” and eases the management, customisation and update process of the operating system. Foxxum also stresses the monetisation opportunities provided to its clients through its connected TV OS, as well as the wide range of global, premium apps and local services integrated into it.
“We took a deep dive into MediaTek’s SoC hard- and software within the last 24 months and launched an amazing new Foxxum CTV OS on MediaTek technology,” says Mehmet Eroglu, Chief Commercial Officer at Foxxum GmbH. “It runs entirely web-based to allow navigation of the entire CTV from one landing page, integrating linear broadcasting and streaming in one place. This enables our clients to support desired customisation with much less engineering. In this way, Foxxum can provide a great growth and cost saving opportunity,”
The company describes the product as a “great alternative to Google TV” and claims that TV brands find the product appealing partly because it offers protection against the dominance of global tech giants.
