Disney+ to launch across 42 countries in ambitious expansion

Disney+ is set to launch across 42 countries and 11 territories this summer. Major markets the streaming service will expand to include Turkey, Poland, UAE and South Africa. Digital TV Research forecasts that Disney+ will reach 271 million total subscribers by 2026, before surpassing Netflix the following year.

Disney+ will launch in in 42 countries and 11 territories this summer. In one the largest expansions for the streaming service to-date, Disney+ will become available in the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Oman, Palestine, Poland, Qatar, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Vatican City and Yemen.

The 11 territories are: the Faroe Islands, French Polynesia, French Southern Territories, St. Pierre and Miquelon Overseas Collective, Åland Islands, Sint Maarten, Svalbard & Jan Mayen, British Indian Ocean Territory, Gibraltar, Pitcairn Islands and St. Helena. The company has not yet announced any country specific launch dates, or revealed information about subscription plans and prices.

Disney+ launched in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands in November 2019, and since then has garnered a total of 118 million total global subscribers as of Q4 2021. According to a forecast from Digital TV Research, Disney+ will continue to rapidly grow, reaching 271 million total subscribers by 2026 and surpassing Netflix’s total subscriber count  the following year. The company intends to continue investing heavily in original content production, and has said it aims to produce 60 European original series by 2024.
