Sky has begun charging viewers to skip ads on its Sky Stream and Sky Go products. As of the beginning of this month, Sky subscribers will pay a £5 monthly fee in order to skip ads, unless they choose to opt out. Ad skipping on Sky had previously been free.

The Ad Skipping package will allow subscriber to fast forward through ads using their remote control buttons when using the Live Pause, Restart, Playlist features or Sky On Demand.

In October, Sky launched Sky Stream – a new device which extends the Sky Glass UI to customers’ existing Smart TVs. The company says the device is the most affordable way for customers to get Sky TV and Netflix together.

The charges for the Ad Skipping pack don’t yet apply to Sky Glass TV.

The Ad Skipping pack doesn’t mean that you viewers wont see any adverts, but allows them instead to fast forward through ads using their remote control and on screen menu. It does not allow them to fast forward ads in live TV or other TV apps, like YouTube or Spotify.
