WIND Hellas, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Greece, has chosen Broadpeak’s streaming and recording solutions for ABR streaming on its new television service, which covers STB and multiscreen viewing. Broadpeak’s BkM100 video delivery mediator manages session requests and redirects them to different video servers. The BkS350 origin and packager server ingests and records live streams in one video format, then packages and encrypts them on-the-fly in HLS and DASH format. The BkS400 cache server caches the video as well as data for EPG images.
The combined solution means WIND Hellas can handle high traffic peaks and deliver a great QoE, including to its hybrid (DTT plus streaming) Android TV set-top boxes (which are made by Technicolor). Zappware has provided the full TV solution as a managed service including cloud-based recording. VP Media Solutions, Broadpeak’s reseller in this project, served as the system integrator.

The WIND Hellas service, and therefore its network, is distributed over many islands, so Broadpeak adapted the capacity of its caching servers to provide the operator with the best fit in terms of bandwidth capacity and geography. The system can handle high peaks of traffic that take place during special events like basketball and football games.
