Kudelski content protection unit NAGRA says it has completed the first steps towards enabling pay-TV operators to deploy US SVOD giant Netflix’s service on STBs using its new converged CAS/DRM client, anyCAST CONNECT,  and NAGRA OpenTV 5 connectware.

As part of the development, Netflix will adopt NAGRA’s PRM content protection product as a Netflix-supported DRM, deploying the NAGRA-On-Chip Security (NOCS) hardware root of trust to meet Netflix’s robust content security requirements. The integrated reference solution will be demonstrated at IBC on NAGRA’s stand (Hall 1, Stand C81).
The move follows an agreement between NAGRA and Netflix in January to accelerate the availability of Netflix services on NAGRA-enabled pay-TV platforms. As part of the agreement, NAGRA will integrate Netflix’s application SDK 4.2 into its OpenTV 5 connectware solution.

NAGRA’s PRM content security product is part of anyCAST CONNECT, and supports service providers’s DVB/IPTV and OTT services as well as Netflix as a single security client for STB and TV.

The first pay-TV operators to adopt the joint solution are expected to be announced in 2016.
