In the run-up to IBC, video delivery solutions company Ericsson has announced that its current playout contract with UK commercial broadcaster ITV has been extended until 2024.
The move will see Ericsson continuing to provide playout services for ITV’s portfolio of channels including ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITV HD and CITV as well as their associated regional variants and ITV’s newest TV channels, ITV Encore and ITVBe.
As part of the contract, Ericsson has already designed, built and integrated a state-of-the-art scalable simulcast platform for ITV. Ericsson says this modular infrastructure will allow ITV the flexibility to easily deliver new services and launch existing services onto new platforms with a high level of resilience.
Thorsten Sauer, Head of Broadcast and Media Services at Ericsson, said that ITV operated one of the most complex broadcast operations in the world, and that during the existing contract Ericsson had for many years successfully partnered the broadcaster to reduce the cost, complexity, and risk and to increase the efficiencies of its playout platform.
Simon Pitts, Managing Director, Online, Pay, Interactive & Technology at ITV, said the company looked forward to strengthening its partnership with Ericsson to support its channels and content over the years to come.
