Content security firm Viaccess-Orca has revealed details of its new converged card and cardless conditional access system (CAS), Adaptive Sentinel, to be shown at IBC. The company claims the new security solution offers ‘the best of both worlds’ and provides ‘unprecedented’ ease of transition between cardless and card-based modes.
Viaccess-Orca says a cardless option can speed up an operator’s service launch and make it more cost-effective, with Adaptive Sentinel offering a seamless transition to card-based technologies when required.
A key element of Adaptive Sentinel is Viaccess-Orca’s new generation of smart card, the PC6, released earlier this year. This aims to strengthen security against advanced smart card and STB threats, allowing operators to have dedicated hardware configurations and customized smartcards.
Viaccess-Orca says the converged model allows a quicker time-to-market for pay-TV services, and supports a wide range of business models, including subscription TV, payment ‘à la carte’, and prepay.
The CAS comes pre-integrated with STB middleware and CAM modules, an eco-system created with partners Neotion and Jiuzhou, to ensure fast time to market.
Several Viaccess-Orca customers have already announced plans to migrate to the new generation of smartcard. Orange France will introduce the PC6 on its satellite signals by the end of this year, while Adaptive Sentinel will also be deployed by the M7 Group, a Pan-European provider of DTH satellite and IPTV triple-play services that operates brands such as Canal Digital and Online.nl in the Netherlands and Skylink in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
