Software video processing specialist Envivio says it will be demonstrating a “revolutionary” cloud DVR solution at IBC, based on the use of a version of its software optimised to run on HP Moonshot for Media Processing servers powered by Intel Xeon E3-1284 v4 processors.

Envivio says its Cloud DVR software solution combines a number of new processing techniques, including efficient software-defined storage, the use of the latest compression standards for transcoding, and packaging on the fly. Together, these can improve storage savings by a factor of 26 times, Envivio says.

By leveraging the HP Moonshot’s scalable architecture and the accelerated video processing functions afforded by the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v4 processor family, the Cloud DVR solution can also offer a “compelling cost/efficiency ratio”, Envivio claims, by significantly reducing storage and processing demands as well as energy savings.

New functions include network time-shifting, start-over TV, catch-up TV, and network personal video recorders (nPVR), all packaged in a single virtual software solution.

The new Cloud DVR architecture also allows video service providers to use off-the-shelf servers, pick and choose any format (SD, HD, or UHD) and includes a complete range of DRMs.

The product will be on display at the HP (14.H05) and Intel (4.B72) stands. Demonstrations will feature the Envivio Cloud DVR software being hosted on an HP Moonshot ProLiant m710p server at HP’s lab in Houston, with the content being viewable in its native resolution on TV sets located at the IBC booths – allowing attendees to compare that resolution to the different bitrates and formats being streamed to tablets and smartphones from Houston.
