In the run-up to IBC, V-Nova, originator of the high-performance PERSEUS compression codec, has announced that Alcatel-Lucent plans to integrate PERSEUS with its Cloud DVR platform and Oregan Network’s Multiscreen Cloud Video Client.
Separately, V-Nova has revealed that it is to collaborate with VideoFlow to extend reliable broadcast-quality video delivery over problematic IP connections.
V-Nova says the combination of the PERSEUS codec and Oregan’s video client – which can be deployed on both UHD/4K-capable and legacy STBs – will enable Alcatel-Lucent to offer service providers the first end-to-end PERSEUS-enabled solution for IP-delivered video. Previous demonstrations have shown UHD TV being distributed at 8Mbit/s using PERSEUS, compared to 21Mbit/s with HEVC encoding.
Oregan says that integrating PERSEUS compression inside its video client has the potential to remove significant costs and challenges associated with high-quality video distribution, helping to take UHD mainstream.
Meanwhile, V-Nova’s collaboration with VideoFlow, whose Digital Video Protection (DVP) product is used to boost the reliability of IP networks for live broadcast delivery, is aimed at ensuring the continuity of reliable high-quality video when being delivered over otherwise ‘impossible’ IP connections.
VideoFlow claims that demos of the combined technology platform have shown that HD-quality video can be delivered over unmanaged IP networks at only 1.5Mbit/s
