Sky VR will partner with NBCUniversal’s Syfy on the May release of Syfy’s scripted virtual and augmented reality sci-fi experience, Eleven Eleven.

Commissioned and produced by NBCUniversal International Networks, in partnership with digital production studio Digital Domain, the experience will launch in Late May after premiering at SXSW as part of the festival’s virtual cinema stream.

Eleven Eleven is set on an island planet during the countdown to an “extinction-level event”. A version of the experience will be available through Sky VR on applicable platforms in Sky territories – the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy.

“With Eleven Eleven, we are pioneering an innovative scripted format for science fiction content that blends the best of theatre, gaming and cinema to create unique VR and AR experiences,” said Steve Patscheck, Executive Vice-President of Global Programming, NBCUniversal International Networks.

Sky VR Studios’ Executive Producer, Neil Graham, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Syfy and NBCUniversal International Networks on Eleven Eleven. It is a truly innovative VR experience and a brilliant step forward in our growing range of VR content.”

The experience uses three different types of storytelling modes: ‘story mode’ where users attach to a main character; ‘explore mode’ where users can roam freely around or follow ancillary characters; and ‘goddess mode’, that lets users zoom out and see the narrative play out in miniature.

The VR experience is available for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Go. The AR version can be accessed on iOS devices.
