HD Plus and NAGRA have renewed their technology partnership and extended it to include content protection on smart TVs in Germany.

NAGRA’s content protection now supports HD Plus’ recently announced HD+ application, which is available on Samsung and Panasonic smart TVs and lets viewers watch HD+ without an external device like a set-top box.

“We are pleased to continue our successful partnership with NAGRA over the long term and extend it with NAGRA content security directly integrated in smart TVs,” said Georges Agnes, Managing Director, Operations and Product Development, of HD PLUS.

NAGRA’s Senior Vice President of Sales for EMEA, Thierry Legrand, said: “HD PLUS has been at the forefront of innovation in the European pay TV industry and we’re excited to continue to support them as they transition their pay TV services to smart TVs giving consumers more innovative ways to access their premium content.”

HD Plus is a wholly owned subsidiary of satellite operator SES and provides the high definition satellite TV platform, HD+. This is available in Germany via the Astra satellite system and offers more than 60 channels.

HD+’s new Komfort-Funktion also enables instant restart of selected programs, access to seven-day-catch-up and an interactive TV guide.

NAGRA is the digital TV division of the Kudelski Group and provides security and multiscreen user experience solutions for digital media.
