The Greek communications and TV provider, WIND-Hellas, has added a network PVR service to its Android TV platform, which was first launched 18 months ago. The service, which was built, and is operated, by Zappware as a turnkey service, can support 4K and HDR picture quality and combines around 60 subscription TV channels with free terrestrial channels through a hybrid set-top box. Hermann Riedl, Chief Strategy & Digital Transformation Officer of WIND Hellas, says the cloud-based recording service “is a significant and ambitious extension of our current service offering.”

“We are now giving consumers the freedom to watch their favourite TV shows whenever and wherever they want, whether in the comfort of their own homes or on the go, live or recorded, on all screens,” Riedl adds. “Integrating all relevant content including Netflix, the Google ecosystem and our TV channels in one simple experience was key to winning market share. Now, with our partner Zappware, we are innovating adding more rich features.”

The cloud recording function is available to all WIND VISION users. It includes a new Series function where, if users click record once, the system creates a box-set of all the episodes for them.

Zappware says the original WIND VISION launch was achieved in record time. “We are looking forward to supporting the further growth of WIND Hellas”, says Patrick Vos, CEO of Zappware. Zappware’s UX expertise is used on millions of devices globally across STBs, connected TV devices and multiscreen. The company also provides a unified service delivery back-office that supports monetisation. Satellite, terrestrial, cable, OTT and hybrid networks are all covered.
